Sundays work

We got quite a bit accomplished today. We put up drywall in the other bedroom. We also finished pulling off old wall paper off walls in the same room. In the other bedroom we were able to get a coat of primer on all the walls and ceiling, so we are about ready to paint that room. The top two pictures are of the room we put in drywall and stripped wall paper The third picture is of the room that we put a coat of primer on the walls. (Snow shovels make great dust pans!)

Here is a report on todays work

It was a warm stormy day today, so it was a good day to work inside. Michelle finished up putting a texture on the ceiling. She is pretty good at it, so I stay out of the way. I worked in the other bedroom, tearing out drywall and putting in new insulation. We finished the day trimming out the attic crawl space and cutting out the door panel. We are going to take a couple of days off. We are going for a bike ride tomorrow and on Saturday down to Michelle's dads for some pizza.

How we haul stuff to the project without a truck

Here are a few pictures to give you an example how we get materials from the store to the house. We have hauled doors, siding, dry wall, bags of mortar in Michelle's car with the back seats taken out. Today we had a bath tub, trim for the windows, and 12 foot sections of base board. The only thing we haven't hauled in that car was the sliding patio door, that barely fit in a truck!

Here is a picture of our 500 dollar clamps!

We went to Lowe's to get a couple of wood clamps to use in putting some trim around a window. We were using an old table saw while trimming out the window which I got at a yard sale ten years ago and was on it's last legs, so we looked to see what new one would cost and came across one that was on sale. We have also been looking for a compound miter saw, and of course the miter saw was on sale too. We ended up with the saws, clamps, and joint compound for 500 bucks. We decided that these are our Christmas presents. So we are celebrating Christmas in July! Here is a picture of the finished trimmed out window. It came out good! Sometimes the right equipment can make you look very talented!

This has been a put up drywall in the heat weekend!

The top picture is the only before picture that we have of the bedroom. There was paneling glued to the old drywall, so we ended up pulling it all out. You can see that there were only 2 electric outlets in the room before, now there are at least 4, plus  a phone jack and a couple boxes that I am not sure what they are for.  The bottom two pictures are what it looks like with all the drywall up. We did use joint compound on all the joints, we took pictures, but everything was still wet and I didn't like what it looked like, so you don't get to see that!

Our fourth of July project

The first two pictures are the first glimpse of a window we knew we had as you can see it  from the outside. From the inside of the house the window was covered by drywall, so today we said "let there be light" You can never have too many windows!

This picture here is looking up through the ceiling in the same room as the hidden window. We could tell there had been a water leak as the drywall was falling in and  it was water stained, we thought the leak problem was solved with the new roof. We came in this morning  it looked like there was water on the floor as it rained heavy last night. We cut away the old damaged drywall and this is what we saw. What it is is a vent pipe from old plumbing. We ran down to the Ace hardware and bought a 3 inch cap for $2.50 and the problem was cured, no more leak. Nothing like pulling apart an old house, you never know what you might unearth!
