A little cement work and insulation work for today

We worked at getting the pump house cleaned up today. The first picture is of the old tank that goes in that little building, we bought a new tank this morning. It has a baffle inside that keeps the water pressure at an even pressure.  We also replaced the insulation  inside with reflective Styrofoam. The second picture is of the pump house and the tank. The third picture is of the outside of the pump house after we put a layer of cement over the gravel that was in there. On the right side you see that little pipe we have in the cement, that is for drainage in case  water gets inside. The last two pictures are on the insulation in the bathroom and kitchen. That's about it for today

plumbing update

We now have all the drain pipes, hot and cold water pipes and the gas pipes installed in the bathroom and kitchen. The drain pipes are connected to to the septic system, the water and gas still need to be connected to the well and the gas meter. Those should be done today. The bath tub is also scheduled to be installed today. These new pictures look a lot like the last batch, but everything is in now and insulated. He has done a real good job and we now have confidence in our plumbing once we cover it all up. We knew it was a mess down there, just like we knew about the electric! The sump pump still needs to be installed in the crawl space, the plumber brought his own pump over yesterday and got most of the water out from under there. Things are moving right along now!

It was a day of shopping today

Today we spent 3 hours in Lowe's buying plumbing supplies. Our plumber left us a very detailed shopping list of things we need for the project. The first two pictures are of the van and all the supplies. Yesterday the plumber and his helper opened up the bathroom floor and took out all of the old pipes. We found out that there is a cement floor underneath sub floor, so it is pretty clean down there. It is obvious now the only way to get to that area was through the floor. That means we want to make sure this job is done right so we will never have to go back underneath there. We bought insulation for all the pipes which was definitely lacking in the previous plumbing down there. It looks as if the next few weeks are going to be busy!

If you like pictures, this is your post!

Here are a few pictures of today's  work. We finished putting back together the front foundation wall. It wasn't as bad as when we did the other side. We were more confident this time and it was about 30 degrees cooler! You get to see the old man getting all muddy. There was no access under the house from outside, so we put an access panel in. We will paint the the new block and door to match the other side. There is also a picture of the deck that I stained on my day off this past week, we need to put another coat of stain on it. After the wall is set, we will back fill the dirt and level it out in front. It was a good day today, we feel like we made progress. We had visitors at the house this week, as there was a note shoved under the door from someone wanting to rent it. I guess we are making an impression!

Todays work

It was one of those days today. We had planned on finishing the other side of of the foundation wall in the front of the house, it has rained a lot over the last few days and there was too much water laying around to start playing with mortar and blocks. We also had someone coming over today to look at the plumbing and that fell through. The last thing we had planned was to mow, but we had rain showers that made the wet yard wetter.   We have learned that there are a lot of things to be done, so you pick one and start working. We ended up cleaning the deck so we can  stain it this week. It is always difficult when you do not have access to running water. We did our best with our buckets of water and scrub brushes. It came up pretty good as we got all the mold and mildew up. We also trimmed out the front door, so the trim and the front door can be painted soon. It was beautiful day to work outside here, even with the brief rain shower!
